After landing at Pope Field, N.C., Feb. 6, 2011, the 440th Airlift Wing Commander, Col. Merle D. Hart, shows his enthusiasm about the completion of the unit’s 2011 Operational Readiness Inspection. “We rocked, the 440th Airlift Wing performed extremely well and I am very proud of you,” said Colonel Hart. 440th Airlift Wing

3/4/2011 - POPE FIELD - March 4, 2011 -- Combat Airlifters, I want to thank you again for the fantastic work you put into the Operational Readiness Inspection. Our hard work and preparation paid great dividends, and I welcome and celebrate the satisfactory grade we received.

Our success proved two major things: we proved we can provide a combat-ready operational force, while maintaining a strategic Reserve, and we validated that Team Pope is a model for Total Force Integration. I am proud of your teamwork and mission accomplishment.

Now that the ORI is complete, I ask that you continue to work hard as we embrace the changes of BRAC. We have unique opportunities to be "unrivaled wingmen" to our active duty and Army partners here at Fort Bragg.

History will be made this month as we transition back to our roots as Pope Field, N.C.

One of our priorities this year is to provide quality equipment and facilities, while preserving an Airman culture. As we move forward, reach out to your active duty and Army counterparts to broaden Total Force opportunities.

I ask that you all stand proud as you remember everything the 440th Airlift Wing has accomplished at Pope Air Force Base, N.C. and lean forward with optimism as we contribute to our joint and coalition team to win today's fight.

We will continue to put the "AIR" in airborne and provide total-force mission ready Combat Airlifters and equipment anywhere, anytime.
